Star Denies Anti-Vaxxer Stance After Voicing Controversial Covid Film
Liam Neeson has provided his voice to a feature-length documentary that questions the legitimacy of immunizations and lauds former cabinet secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr.
The Documentary's Disputed Foundation
Named "Plague of Corruption," the project is based on a popular book published by Judy Mikovits, who rose to infamy during the pandemic for assertions that the virus was linked to a bad strain of the seasonal immunization.
The book's collaborator, a producer, has also written books with far-right radio host the Infowars host. Heckenlively wrote online praising Neeson's participation in the film.
A Strong Statement
A spokesperson for Liam Neeson have released a response pushing back against suggestions that he holds anti-vaccine beliefs.
"Many understand that misconduct might be present within the medical sector, but that should never be conflated with rejection of vaccines," the response explains. "He never has been, and is not, anti-vaccination. His long work with the global charity highlights his consistent support for worldwide vaccination initiatives."
The statement noted that the performer did not shape the film's editorial content and that concerns about its claims are best addressed to the creators.
Central Assertions Featured in the Film
As presented, the narration read by Neeson makes several controversial claims:
- It claims that pro-vaccine voices have demanded "blind obedience" to government bodies.
- It declares that "medical science has become deeply politicised."
- Robert F Kennedy Jr is interviewed claiming, "The core flaw with vaccines is that they just aren't adequately tested."
- The narration takes aim at pandemic restrictions, saying they caused severe distress that led to the loss of thousands of lives.
- On the topic of the immunizations, it mentions a perspective that they were "developed too quickly" and seen as "dangerous experiments."
Historical Controversy and Ongoing Issues
The documentary includes a historical film about AIDS medication trials on children, which was afterwards the subject of a correction by the network for violations of guidelines.
Last month, the political figure directed the Centers for Disease Control to revise its longstanding position that there is no causal relationship between immunizations and autism. This assertion is echoed in the documentary, despite a recent study from the World Health Organisation confirming no evidence has been found.
A Previous Position of Support
Contrasting the documentary's tone, Neeson has in the past voiced clear advocacy for vaccines in his capacity as a charity ambassador.
In 2022, he referred to vaccines as "an incredible human success story," stating that "The conversation about vaccines in the past few years has forgotten how much positive impact they have done... It is perhaps one of the biggest shared accomplishments in human history."
"Plague of Corruption" concludes with Neeson's script saying, "This marks not the conclusion of our story. This is the start of a new chapter."
