A person who contaminated treats with sleeping medication and distributed them to minors at a youth camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two children both nine and ten years old.
The defendant was arrested after eight children and a grown-up became sick at the location in July.
The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he denied one particular crime he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old child.
Ruben was remanded in custody before a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, handling the case, detailed the defendant's actions to the court.
She explained his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer camp which he ran.
Ruben played a "candy game" with the minors, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and ask them to eat sweets "rapidly".
She stated to the judge Ruben had conducted this practice with the children "for many years", and children had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She stated the man had been able to explain this over a long period as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had worries in recently.
The legal representative stated further: "This year his stepson had worries about the activities, with valid cause.
"They chose" to examine in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor said items including baby oil, ointment and injection devices were located, and his stepson notified the police about his suspicions.
She explained the defendant continued to play the "sweet game" with six children that evening - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that time," she added.
The regulatory agency, the investigative body, had stated that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
The prosecutor explained the children were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson notified the law enforcement again.
She said the defendant then engaged in the "sweet game" in a space of five youngsters.
