Cancellieri's Surprising Return
A single player kept smiling amid the chaos. Matteo Cancellieri had not been expected to feature for Lazio this season. He completed the last one on loan at Parma and, early this summer, Lazio were advocating for him to remain there for another season. The signing restriction forced a rethink. Cancellieri arrived in the first place during Sarri's previous tenure, then a 20-year-old product of Verona's academy. He accumulated 20 league appearances with the club in 2022-23, all but one of those as a substitute. Discovering His Natural Fit
Maybe Sarri was still trying to work out the exact type of Cancellieri's abilities. Labeled as a flank player on arrival, Cancellieri instead found himself the majority of that term as a struggling deputy to Ciro Immobile in the striker role.
