Line of Duty Confirmed for 7th Series on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its 7th installment, announced by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-episode series written by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."
The previous series concluded in recent years with a finale that attracted over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a new season have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only arrived recently.
New Challenges for The Team
The seventh season begins with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most sensitive case so far."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for busts of organized crime, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a offender.
Yet, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the background, the teaser hinted.
In a statement, the creator commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had so many followers watch the developments of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new season."
He added: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor described being part of the series as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.
Vicky McClure remarked: "It goes without saying I'm so excited the show is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."
"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those unexpected plot developments."
Series Legacy
The drama launched in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting guest stars such as Kelly Macdonald.
The BBC has not yet announced exactly the new season will premiere.
The conclusion of series six brought the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and the creative team indicated at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.
However, the corporation announced on this week that a new season is now being produced.
