Grief as Popular South African DJ Killed in the City of Johannesburg.
A popular South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country struggling with rampant crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was attacked in the central business district on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities reported the 40-year-old media personality was accosted by three individuals, one of whom began shooting at him before fleeing on foot.
The purpose of the attack is unknown and no suspects have been apprehended have taken place, according to authorities.
How It Happened
Authorities indicated that Stock was targeted as he was leaving a building close to the city center landmark.
He had spent several hours at the building supervising the implementation of safety equipment, which had been reportedly taken over by unidentified individuals, according to reports.
"Authorities believe the man was approached by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before escaping on foot," an official report stated.
Surveillance tape showed a man with dreadlocked hair and clad in what looked like a guard's attire firing shots on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ sought to escape after he was shot but succumbed to his injuries a short distance away.
Officials noted that Stock had an weapon on his person and nothing was taken during the assault.
